Angadi Hoysala — India

Tasting notes

Orange  — Dried fig  — Milk Chocolate

This coffee comes from a family-owned, 160-hectare farm in the Chikmagalur District, Karnataka State in India. Established in 1889, the Angadi estate grows arabica coffee under a two-tier shade system. Next to Arabica coffee, the estate also grows Robusta coffee, black pepper, areca nut (betel nut), cardamom and other assorted spices and fruit.
The Hoysala farms are Weedicide-free and comply with UTZ and RFA standards. Coffee from this lot comes from trees of the Catuai variety. The farm managers of the Hoysala estates maintain a strict tree renovation schedule. This helps to keep productivity high and increase the plants’ resistance against diseases. On average, the plants are five years old. Cherry is handpicked and then sorted on quality. The fruit passes through the pulper to remove the outer skin. This method preserves the mucilage on the bean, the honey process. Then, the beans still enrobed in their mucilage move to the drying stage. The coffee dries on trays under shade and finally under full sun. This lot represents a harvest and processing batch from one single day.
